Damn, baru denger beritanya dari temen gue. The fuckin news comin out of goddamn nowhere. He wasn’t even that old. 52!! This is so sad. Am I a big fan of chris cornell? Yes, you can say that. Not a massive fan, tapi lumayan ngefans dan demen ama suara dia, yang mungkin buat gue jadi salah satu vokalis rock terbaik yang pernah gw denger. Kadang2 emang mirip sih suaranya ama si Vedder, but Cornell lebih halus, lebih soulful, acoustic-y, dan lebih tepat ke selera gue. Soundgarden? Lumayan, but my love for soundgarden not as big as my fandom to Audioslave ato solo karirnya si Cornell.  I know, I know. Audioslave emang kedengeran lebih gimmick-y gitu daripada soundgarden song yang felt like steel rock, but fuck it. Audioslave is better than Soundgarden! So, sebagai tribute buat dia, I’ve made this list. 10 lagu terbaik yang pernah dia nyanyiin, either itu di audioslave, soundgarden, or solo career. Rest in Peace!

Soundtrack from the greatest 007’s movies of all time, Casino Royale, diisi ama lagu terbaik bond sepanjang masa juga(Gak Include Spectre-nya Radiohead ye). Sesuai banget ama filmnya yang fast, brutal and hard hitting, you know my name probably lagu bond yang paling rock(Not saying much juga sih). Versi acousticnya aja masih kerasa badassnya kok.

 

09. Fell on the Black Days

Fell on the Black days itu lagu soundgarden kedua yang gw denger setelah Black Hole Sun. It is very very melodramatic and ballad-y. Beda ama kebanyakan lagu soundgarden lainnya yang gw tau saat itu. Salah satu dari lagu yang mengalun di otak dan imajinasi gue disaat gue pulang after bad day at work. Classic 90’s!

I am not your autumn moon – I am the night… Incredibly catchy. Salah satu lagu Audioslave yang pop abis. Versi aslinya biasa aja, but the acoustic version is god. Well, every song yang Cornell bawain in acoustic version jadi lebih gila sih in terms of soulfulnya. His acoustic set is crazy awesome!

Just like wide awake, Michael Mann yang bikin gua suka banget ama lagu ini. The god of coolness noir beautiful scene. Just look at the scene from one of my favorite movies of all time diatas, and if you tell me you didn’t feel cool and extra awe, I’m going to fuck you up.

Kalo gw WWE Wrestler, Cochise mungkin bakalan gue pilih as my theme song. Cochise is EPIC. EPIC and EPIC. I can imagine myself jalan dengan cocky attitude, di pagi hari di Jakarta, dengan lagu ini mengalun di otak gue, sementara gue nganggep rendah semua orang di sekitar gue. Yep, kadar kebadassannya lagu ini segitu tingginya. It will makes you feel like the coolest asshole at that time.

Sorry gue curang dikit. This is not his song per-se. This is Michael Jackson’s song. Yes, the legendary Billie Jean. Why? Kenapa lagu ini? Just fuckin heard his version and then you decided, kalo this is one of the greatest cover of all time, if not THE BEST! Cornell ngerubah lagu Billie Jean jadi some kind of sad, angry, song. Dengan suara dia yang begitu cool and confident, you can feel his soul. You definitely can feel that he’s being fucked by Billie Jean, and piss the hell off because of that. Michael Jackson’s version is legendary and awesome. But Cornell version is in the whole other level in terms capturing and translating the soul of the song.
